Juniper Publishers- Open Access Journal of Environmental Sciences & Natural Resources Seawater Upconing under a Pumping Horizontal Well in a Confined Coastal Aquifer Authored by Dongmin Sun Abstract We have investigated the seawater Upconing due to a finite-length pumping horizontal well and derived an analytical solution of sharp fresh/sea interface based on the solution of Dagan & Bear [ 1 ]. The results are compared with those of vertical wells. The Upconing profile exhibits three stages with time: an early slow increase stage, an intermediate rapid increase stage, and a late steady state stage. The sensitivity of the interface rise to the well length, the well location, the aquifer anisotropy, and the observation point location is analyzed.
